My name is Tina Hunter I am 36 years old, I am in favor of the 25in5 policies targeting Ontario’s current poverty levels. I have lived in poverty most of my adult life and resided in housing since the age of 23. I am currently trying to get out of the “poverty stricken” environments that have led me astray for so many years. I do not like to be judgmental but found 80% of housing residents were troubled or had low lifestyle expectancies. Not the fault of their own in some cases. I am a Single mother of four children (the two youngest children reside with myself ages 6 and 4).

I have lived and worked in the city of Toronto for over 30 years. There have been occasions when I have been out of worked but never for long. Then I damaged my foot, was unable to keep up with work so I lost my job. I was told by my surgeon I had to have an amputation so I put my belongings in storage and moved from my Yonge & Eglinton apartment of which I had resided for 15 years.

Now I am recovering and the only option available to me is to reside with a relative in her bachelor apartment. This situation is not condusive to a speedy recovery.

I pay $900.00 of $1300.00 per month towards rent. I cannot buy food or anything else after paying bills. I am a cancer patient and eat at drop-ins. Hamburger and potatoes are my staples.
